Microdermabrasion and anti-aging

Many have heard of microdermabrasion but some are unaware of the process of the procedure. It is often thought of as an effective alternative to plastic surgery or botox. Some liken the effect to an "instant facelift".

Microdermabrasion lightly resurfaces the skin by simultaneously projecting crystals onto the skin under presssure and then suctioning to remove dead skin cells. By damaging the upper layer of skin, this treatment shocks the skins regenerative process into overdrive causing the skin to rapidly replace the damaged layer with new cells.
The advantages of microdermabrasion are:

*reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
*increased circulation and stimulates the skin.
*reduce uneven pigmentation (sun spots) and scarring.
*removal of clogged pores/reduces appearance of pore size.
*brightening, firming, smoothing the skin giving it a healthy glow.
*helps increase collagen/elastin production.

Recommended Treatment:
Should receive 4-6 treatments every 7-10 days to maximize your results.
After initial treatments you should receive microdermabrasion every 4-6 weeks to maintain the results you achieved.

Side Effects:
Side effects for this treatment are minimal and temporary. Most can expect to leave with younger looking skin without any noticeable effects.

Tips for acne prone and oily skin

Nearly half of all women will at some point suffer from acne. I often hear women say "I am not a teenager anymore, why am I breaking out?" I would like to share with you some tips that may help reduce your acne and get you on the road to clear skin.

*Make sure your makeup says noncomedogenic-meaning it won't clog your pores.
*If you do suffer from acne and oiliness make sure to change your pillowcase every other day and wash the dirty ones in hot water to remove bacteria.
*The verdict is still out on this one but some research has suggested a reduction in the consumption of dairy products may help clear some hormonal acne.
*DO NOT POP/SQUEEZE PIMPLES! Hard for many to do, but the chance of spreading bacteria and scarring the skin is much too high to justify doing this.
*If you're using acne prodcuts you must use an oil free moisturizer to compensate so you don't become to dry.
*Wash your face last in the shower so as to remove any runaway conditioner or other products that may clog pores.
*Be mindful of touching your face, this simple but easy to forget step can sometimes make a difference.
*Remove makeup before working out, and rinse with cool water afterwards.
*Try a chemical peel, they are antibacterial and have the ability to go deep into the skin and help clear acne.

HairTrix has an excellent line of skincare for acne prone/oily skin. My most important suggestion is to be patient and continue treatment and product usage as recommended. Many FDA approved acne medications contain ingredients that cause skin regeneration. This potentially discouraging process sometimes makes a person breakout more intially. Give it some time, most products will give results in 6-12 weeks. Most treatments will not provide clear skin instantly, but by following professional suggestions and being faithful to your recommended treatments, YOU CAN HAVE CLEAR SKIN!

cold wind, freezing temps wreak havoc on your skin

Cold winds and dry warm indoor air affect your skin making it very susceptible to the environment and since we can't always go to Florida on a whim here are some tips to help salvage your skin this winter:
-always use sunscreen, even if it is not sunny outdoors the sun reflects off of the snow and will damage your skin
-help with dry skin by taking a warm not hot shower and using a humidifier
-use a great moisturizer such as Clinical Care drench moisturizer, also Clinical Care moisture seal which will lock in moisture but will allow your skin to breathe.

Because the skin has greater difficulties shedding in the colder months a chemical peel will help shed dead dry skin and help your moisturizer penetrate more deeply.

What are chemical peels and what do they do?

Chemical peels offer a dramatic lift to the appearance without surgury or drastic methods.  They are fast, effective and offer immediate results.  Peels help acheive smooth skin, reduce/eliminate fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, uneven pigmentation, and increase collagen.

What Exactly are Chemical Peels?

The peels used at HairTrix are made up of Alphahydroxy acids particularly glycolic acid to removed the damaged outer layer of skin.

What do they feel like?
Some havve the misconception chemical peels are extremly painful and leave the skin red and peeling.  Although slight rosiness is expected immediately after treatment this will only last a short time, and for most people no peeling will occur.  Peels often feel tingly when applied to the skin but are only left on for a tolerable 1-5 minutes.  When the peel is neutralized immediately after any minor discomfort is relieved.

What to avoid?

It is recommended that a client go for one hour after a peel without makeup to further the benefits of the peel.  Staying out of the sun for 24-48 hours is strongly recommended, as well as use of a sunscreen of SPF 30.  Any other exfoliation included the use of retinoids and mechanical exfoliants (face scrubs) should be avoided for 24-48 hours before and after treatment.

Chemical Peels are one of the most effective ways to dramatically change your skin as well as improve it.  -call 643-9680 to book your appointment or to book a free consulation!
